About

Alexandra Ianculescu is an Olympian, professional cyclist, and freelance sports broadcaster. A former long-track speed skater, she represented Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang in the 500 m event. Today, she is pursuing the Summer Olympic Games in cycling, competing on both the road and track while also working internationally as a broadcaster and announcer at major speed skating events.

Born in 1991 in Sibiu, Romania, Alexandra grew up in a highly active sporting environment. She began skiing and skating at the age of two, inspired by her mother, a Romanian national champion speed skater in 1986. As a young athlete she participated in a wide range of sports including soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and competitive alpine skiing, developing the versatility and athletic foundation that would later shape her elite career.

After moving with her family to Toronto, Canada in 2001, Alexandra began speed skating with the Toronto Cyclones Short Track Club. At just 15 years old, she moved to Calgary, Alberta to pursue her dream of representing Canada on the international stage. At the age of 14 she was already a world traveller with the Romanian National team living abroad, getting experience in Inzell, Erfurt and Collalbo in long track speed skating.

She represented Canada at the World Junior Championships in Seinäjoki, Finland and Groningen, Netherlands in 2011, and in 2014 was selected to the Canadian National Senior Team, racing on the ISU World Cup circuit in Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, and Germany. Over the course of her career, Alexandra competed in two World Sprint Championships and more than 48 World Cup competitions, continually improving her performances and setting national records in the 500 m and 1000 m distances before retiring from professional speed skating in 2022.

Since 2020, Alexandra has been based in Europe, racing professionally with a Dutch Elite Women’s cycling team while training year-round on both the road and the velodrome. Her goal is to qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. After suffering a bad cycling crash in a race in 2025 and breaking her coccyx, she has taken the time to recover and has been focusing on broadcasting.

Alongside her athletic career, Alexandra has built a reputation as an engaging sports broadcaster and announcer, regularly working at international competitions and World Cup events since 2008. Fluent in four languages, she brings an energetic on-mic presence, deep knowledge of sport, and the unique perspective of an Olympian to her broadcasting work.

Outside of sport, Alexandra is also a creative entrepreneur. In 2024 she launched NinetyOne Collective, a luxury sports apparel brand and works with over 17 international teams including Bobsled Canada, Swiss Speed Skating and works with custom designs for club and professional cycling teams. She enjoys painting and drawing in her free time, and when she’s not training, traveling, or broadcasting, she enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family, and attending rock concerts or playing the piano.
