Dear Madam / Sir,

Please allow me to introduce myself and explain my burning desire to achieve Olympic Gold and how you might be able to help me.

I am Alexandra (Alex) Ianculescu and I am sixteen years of age. I was born in Romania and moved to Canada seven years ago.

It is my goal and dream to be able to participate in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games and to represent Canada and Toronto at international competitions for long-track speed skating.

I have just been accepted to attend National Sports School in Calgary and now realize this is the most viable route to Olympic success.

The cost of residing in Calgary, training in the Oval high-performance speed skating program and attending NSS is beyond my current capability as it is approximately $25,000 per year for two years. I understand that many progressive companies find it attractive to deal directly with young athletes and gain considerable benefit through cross promotion without the complicated association and large investment with the major Olympic sponsorship bodies.

I was on the Romanian National Speed Skating team, and they supported me and got me to where I am now. They paid for everything. I qualified for the World Junior Long Track Championships in Changchun, China. Now I want to skate for Canada and I need all the support I can get. I also won the National Championships in August 2007, inline, and both 2007 and 2008 National Championships on ice.

I want to make the Canadian Junior National speed skating team by the end of this upcoming season, and I want to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships in 2009. Long term goals: I want to represent Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, and win gold in 2014.

You have probably heard this many times before “Canada simply does not fully support their Olympic athletes” however the reality for me is to find a way around this with my own initiative and get it done.

Any support, ideas, and suggestions you might have would be most welcome.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Ianculescu
