I was born in Sibiu, Romania and moved to Toronto when I was 9 years old. I started speed skating with the Toronto Speed Skating Club at the age of 10.
I skated short track for 5 years, before trying out Long Track with the Romanian National Team. Two years ago I moved to Calgary and started my career as a Canadian speed skater, at the Olympic Oval. I am currently in the Oval Program full time, and I also coach with the Calgary Speed Skating Association. What better way to share your knowledge than to coach future Canadian Medalists (even if they are 5-16 years old now).
I moved to Calgary alone, in order to pursue a successful academic and athletic career. I attend the National Sport School and am in grade 12. Next year I will return to finish 2 courses and then I will take the rest of the year off to focus on making the Junior Canadian national team. The following year I will attend the University of Calgary- I want to study Kinesiology and Fine Arts.
Hobbies I have include painting, cycling, playing my guitars, playing tennis, golf, volleyball and skiing. I now enjoy all those sports recreationally, as I do not allow myself to play on a competitive level because I have chosen my path and that is to get the 500m gold in 2014...therefore I cannot play other sports at a higher level.
Music I listen to ranges from lots of Aerosmith, to Edith Piaf. I enjoy a variety of rock. I listen to techno and mixes of random songs, while getting ready for races or when warming up for training.
In the next few pages you will read about my accomplishments and how you can help me!
