Work experience
I am a Level 1 coach with the CSSA. I coach the ABS program where I coach youth, families and adults how to speed skate. I also work with higher level groups like SPD 2, and just make sure they do the program they are given, and correct them in technique and so on. I give them tips and advice on how they can improve their times and get closer to their goal. I like to share the knowledge I have received from different coaches throughout my career.
In the past, I worked at Richtree in the coffee section and I used to prepare coffee, lattes, espressos, americanos and different drinks for customers throughout the day. Also worked as a buss girl where I had to clean up tables after customers left. My favorite part was working in the pastry section because our specialty were the crepes. I loved making them and preparing them with strawberries, mixed berries, bananas, apples, sauce and whatever the customer wanted! Including ice cream :)
I currently work as a cashier at the Umi Sushi Express in Market Mall, Calgary. On random days I will help prepare sushi; Will cut it into pieces and put it in the to go box. Am familiar with the Japanese terms for ingredients used around the kitchen. Could also name every single ingredient in every sushi roll we make. (A lot of sushi). Also experienced in making great bubble tea. ;)
Athletic Goals
My athletic goals as of August 2009 are as follows:
Long Term: I want to represent Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia and I want to be a gold medalist in the 500m with a time of 36.95 (time goal will change).
Short Term: It's all about the baby steps. I am currently working on my leg extension and straight away strides. Next I will work on my corners and will learn how to push properly, get a good lead, and exit the corer like a slingshot. This season's times I am aiming for are pinned to the wall in front of me, and I see them every morning. They remind me constantly of the goals that I set for myself and that I know are not easy to reach- because that's just the person I am. I aim high 'cause I love taking the risk and getting out of my comfort zone. And achieving in the end! Right now I am more focused on the 500m time I want, which is a 39.85. I wanted a 40.04, but I changed my mind.
Why I need the flexibility of National Sport School
I need the flexibility of NSS because I do not want my education to suffer due to my speed skating. I know I can excel in both; right now it is very important for me to be able to train in a high-performance program and have the flexibility of attending school and not missing out on my education. I want to study Kinesiology and make a difference in this world, so I need to go to school. Besides, I love going to school!
